Update to Librarians Live-Tweeting: The Second Installment

Update! October 20, 2012:

Vote for which film you’d like to see!

[Voting is closed.]

Honorable mentions went to: The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Karate Kid.  However, since the intent of this social media experiment is supposed to be snarky in nature (as librarians tend to be) it was deemed that these films didn’t deserve that treatment.

[Voting is closed.]

Unless otherwise noted, the film watching begins at 8 PM GMT / 4 PM EST.  Check for your local time here http://www.time.is/compare

Results will be posted after a reasonable consensus has been reached.

Original post:

After a successful first event of Librarians Live-Tweeting during “Flash Gordon,” we’re going to go at it again!  Not sure what I’m talking about?  See this previous blog post: https://librarysherpa.wordpress.com/2012/08/31/libfg/

Submit your suggestions for a date, time and film.  The general consensus seems to prefer a film be of the cheesy 80s variety.  All suggestions will be considered and a voting poll to follow.  It’s imperative that the film be widely available in multiple countries and platforms, e.g. online, DVD, etc.

  1. Conan the Barbarian? (never seen it) Karate Kid? The Breakfast Club (never seen it)
In terms of when, I’d say not a Sunday – the movie would clash with Homeland which is Sunday evenings at 9pm…this is sad, I know, but I do like to watch it live, and not on my iPhone on catch up! And it is excellent – have you caught up watching it yet?

    1. I’ve not heard of most of those, but an early Jim Carey – Once Bitten?! Or maybe the one described as “cheese at its best” – The Last Dragon?! But, looking at availability, The Last Dragon only on Amazon as US import – Region 1 so probably won’t work on our DVD players!

  2. ‘The Last Starfighter’ is a classic 80s movie in the same sci-fi-y vein as Flash Gordon (ah-ha!). I’ve never seen ‘The Karate Kid’ but I feel like that film is too good for this treatment. ‘Stand by Me’ is another classic. ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ I have shockingly never seen.

‘The Last Dragon’ does sound fun. There were a lot of ‘The Last…’ films in the 80s.

  3. Bit late to this one (sorry!) but here’s my suggestions…
The Running Man – mainly because I just read the book and want to see how it compares!
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – because it is shocking that Simon has never seen it, this should be rectified asap 😉
The Breakfast Club – because I LOVE that film and it is also shocking that Anneli has never seen it!

    1. Wow, this is tough. So many good choices. Similar to what Simon said, I think “Ferris Bueller” and “The Breakfast Club” are too good for this treatment. I’m on board with “The Last Starfighter” or I also just thought of “Space Camp.” Once we settle on a film, which Saturday in November works for everyone? Is 8 pm GMT good for you UK folks? I’ll post a poll shortly and let’s see how it goes.
